Carroll Shelby did not improve the Mustang. He contradicted it.

The GT500 appeared in 1967 with a 428 cubic inch V8, seven litres of displacement. A former winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans turned tuner, Shelby moved the Mustang from likeable coupé to full muscle car. The 1968 KR version received the 428 Cobra Jet.
