A bare stainless steel body that cannot be repainted. That was the principle, not the problem.

Drawn by Giorgetto Giugiaro, chassis developed by Lotus, a French-Swedish V6 engine: the DMC-12 was assembled near Belfast between 1981 and 1983. About nine thousand cars were built before the company went bankrupt. Cinema made it immortal two years after production ended.
