A Maserati V6, hydropneumatic suspension and six headlights behind glass. In 1970, Citroën asked nobody for permission.

Drawn by Robert Opron, the SM pairs a 2.7-litre Maserati V6 with hydropneumatic suspension and DIRAVI steering, self-centring with variable assistance. The American magazine Motor Trend named it car of the year in 1972. Fewer than thirteen thousand were built between 1970 and 1975.
